Introduction to the OCZ Vertex 4 128GB Solid State Drive
We have had many solid state drives to cross the plains over onto our test benches. We remember in the begin it was hard to even receive one to the price and rarity of the drive. But when you were able to score one it was being a kid at Christmas. You had in hand the fastest drive available to the consumer. That feeling has not change but the drive have.
The drives are now even faster boasting transfer rates of over 500 MB/s going through the SATA III and even faster being mounted into an empty PCIe port. This alone makes the purchase of a SSD really worth it. But that is not all. The drives are being very affordable with 120/128 GB models being offered for under $115 and sometimes lower when a rebate is offered.
If you have being around before the SSD explosion you will know that OCZ was the company that took the lead. OCZ supplied several different models before most companies were even talking about adding solid state drives to their product line-up. And years later they are still at the top with the number of drives offers and the number of drives sold.
Many of the OCZ models are revisions and improvements of a previous which is the whole reason for the Roman numeral being displayed in the model name. And in the case of the review sample here today we have the Vertex 4. The drive that started it all was a model with had blistering speed (for that time period, 2009) of 280 MB/s and 3K 4K IOPS. Things have really changed as the Vertex 4 brags about speeds of 535 MB/s and 120K 4K IOPS. Advancements and progression is great isn’t it?
OCZ’s take on the Vertex 4
As the fourth generation of the legendary Vertex family, the Vertex 4 Series pushes storage performance to the max and redefines the modern day computing experience. Vertex 4 SSDs are innovatively engineered to deliver industry-leading file transfer rates and superior system responsiveness, all while providing a more durable, reliable, and energy efficient storage solution compared to traditional hard drives. Designed to take full advantage of the SATA III interface, the Vertex 4 unleashes ultimate productivity, gaming, and multimedia applications.
