Introduction to the Patriot Torqx SSD

As much as we see new motherboards with new chipsets and processors with ungodly amount of cache there is no bigger upgrade than purchasing a SSD. The last statement honestly depends on what you are upgrading from. If you have a fairly newer system instead of forking out hard earned loot for a new mobo/CPU combination look into a speedy SSD drive.

I did not see life this way until I laid my hands on my first SSD. It was the OCZ Agility which was a very impressive situation for my lackluster daily used rig. The current state of SSD is one that takes a bit of research to understand. There are the different controllers that are available from the lackluster JMICRON 600 chip to the ultra Intel controller. We can't forget the upcoming Sandforce controller. And then there is the different NAND that are using on the PCB that make up the drive and lately there is the different amounts of cache to consider. All this will determine just how much speed and performance you will get with your new solid state drive.

A special gift for us is the Patriot Torqx. From the looks of it, the Torqx is a drool-worthy SSD component. Equipped with a MLC Indilinx controller sporting 64mb of cache, we just can't wait to get to the testing phase. The advertised numbers alone should be enough for us to say it is a winner, but what is a review without the testing phase.
