Introduction to the OCZ Agility 2 60GB SSD
There once was a time where the first upgrades a person would make was the processor or ram, since this is what was needed to get your precious rig to the next level. If there was a new game released you had to have the newest GPU on the market, so you could enjoy it at the settings it was intended to be plated at. But times have changed, and so has technology. We are at a point where, in our opinion, hardware is farther along than software. What this means is there's hardly any need to go get the latest and greatest CPU you can afford in order to get things done. Chances are if you have an Intel Core2Duo or an AM2+ AMD chip, plus a decent video card, you can do most of the things you need with little sacrifice in performance or image quality.
Then there is many of us that aren’t content with what we have and need to buy something to make us appreciate that rig sitting underneath the desk. There is currently no better upgrade, again in our opinion, than going with a new Solid State Drive (SSD). The technology behind solid state drives has come a long way, no longer do we have to worry about stuttering data transfers or slow read and write speeds. Especially when we have companies like OCZ releasing SSD based on newer controllers or providing an updated firmware.
Today we will be taking a hard long look at one of OCZ's newest solid state drives based on the Sandforce 1200 controller. The Sandforce controller has lately been getting its fair share of reviews and good press due to it's impressive read and write numbers. According to Sandforce, both of which can be as high as 260MB/s! The new OCZ Agility 2 60GB model advertises even better read and write of 285MB/s and 275MB/s, respectively. With the asking price of about $170, performance and cost is fast becoming affordable.OCZ take on the Agility 2 SSD
“Based on a cutting-edge new architecture, Agility 2 Solid State Drives deliver unprecedented performance while maintaining an affordable storage solution for early adopters looking to update their systems with the latest technology. OCZ designed the Agility 2 to excel in both sequential and random read/write rates to take your PC or notebook productivity to the next level, featuring superb 4k random writes up to 10,000 IOPS to give a performance edge over the previous generation. Using the latest controller technology, Agility 2 not only provides a faster, more responsive PC experience, but promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives.
With solid performance coupled with supreme reliability, the Agility 2 is designed to push the envelope in storage technology for those who place a premium on speed, reliability and efficiency, but demand the affordability of MLC flash memory. Built with SATA 3Gb/s, the Agility 2 Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 notebook or desktop upgrade.
Agility 2 is available in 40GB to 480GB capacities and comes backed by a 3-year warranty and 2 million hour MTBF for ultimate peace of mind.”
